Charter Message Content Group Etiquette Group Moderation How to Join How to Leave Privacy Issues Searching the Archives Group Addresses Turn off HTML Email How it works Subscription Options Changing Subscription Mode Tips and Tricks Digests in HTML mode Turning off email when on holiday More HelpIn October 1998 a support forum for Rosacea sufferers was created on the eGroups server.
Commercial postings are currently allowed as long as they are brief, infrequent and likely to be of genuine interest to the list members. Messages are sent automatically to everyone in the group, but may be moderated if required.
Rosacea-Support is a members only list, you must be a member of the list in order to post messages to the list. The group is moderated, messages need to be approved by a list moderators before reaching the group. You must read the list highlights before posting to the whole group. Membership of the group is free and open to everyone who is willing to abide by the rules of the group. If you are not willing to 1) find out the rules of the group or 2) abide by them, then do not join the group.
It is possible to read messages via either of the 2 archive sites without becoming a list member. The Yahoo! Groups server will not forward any message from an email address that is not a list member. It will instead return the message to you and invite you to join the group.
Posts should be only in plain text. HTML email is strongly discouraged as it breaks many features of email groups. Please ensure that you change the subject of a messages if the topic changes. This is especially important so that those who read via the web can have an idea of what the email details.
Email addresses will not be published. If you view the archive on line, the addresses of the list members are disguised - this will help keep your email address private. When you post to the whole group, those reading the messages via the digest or receiving each email message will get to see your email address.
Using email addresses that you have learnt from the rosacea-support list for purposes other than supporting rosacea are to be with the personal permission of the email address only.
The list of members of rosacea-support will not be offered to anyone for any
purpose without the permission of the member.
Before posting to the group you must read the list highlights. This will
help you catch up with the rest of the group and avoid the same questions being
asked all the time.
Please also consider before posting whether you could just as easily email the individual person rather than sending the message to the whole group.
As there are many messages per day, you should chose a relevant subject
for each message that you post. Also, it is polite to trim your reply so
that only the relevant text is included in your message.
Note for digest readers: You must change the subject of your email if
you reply to a digest. Messages with a subject of "Digest Number XXX" will
not be forwarded to the group. Further, if you are replying to a digest
message you must trim the reply text so that it only contains the relevant
text. Your message will be delayed until the moderators have time to edit
your message.
By its very nature of openeness the internet also attracts those who don't
share the group's respect for each other. Any message that does not relate to
the charter of the group is in violation of the rules of the group.
In addition to messages adhering to the group charter, the following checks
are applied. This is from Rotary International, and is called the 4 way test of
the things we think, say or do.
You have 2 ways to do this
Please do not post a request to be removed to the whole group. Only one
person can help you - me, and all the rest will just have to delete your message. It can get boring and even annoying to see unsubscribe messages all the time.
Those who just use the Yahoo! Groups web server to read messages will be able to
post you email messages without seeing your email address.
If you are concerned about privacy, you may like to use a web based email
client. Otherwise you can configure your email client to not show your
name, and choose an innocuous email address at your ISP.
The list of all members is only available to the group moderators
and will not be used for anything not related to the rosacea-support
group.
As we are using the Yahoo! Groups server to host our group, please refer to
their privacy statement at
http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/
for more information.
The eScribe
archive has a much better search facility. It only dates back to the 27th of
March 1999.
The Yahoo! Groups search facility only indexes a certain amount of each message and also will not show results from messages from many months ago (the exact description of what is searchable is not available).
[NEW !] You can now search the Yahoo! Groups message archive using the wonderful Google Search Engine.
Message Content
The rosacea support group is not a chat group. Please do not post
messages about virus threats, internet greeting cards, cheerios etc. These sort
of messages detract from the topic at hand - rosacea, and increase the number
of messages that people have to read.
Group Etiquette
The rosacea support group is a large group of people. The larger the group
gets, the more likely it is that negative or unhelpful messages are posted to
the group.
Any messages that do not obey the charter of the group are liable to be moderated and not be delivered to the group. You will be notified when your post has been deleted.
Group Moderation
The group has reached the stage where the size has become a problem. Too many list members have abused the direct posting method. All messsages are held on the email server at Yahoo! Groups until a list moderator approves them. Messages that are off topic or don't conform to the charter of the group are liable to be rejected. A short delay is normal before you see your message. Depending on how busy the volunteer moderators are, you might expect to wait up to 2 days to see your message appear.
How to Join
You must register with Yahoo! Groups in order to be able to post to the list. Also, to automatically receive each message you will need to register.
Note: if you only want to read messages and not post, then you can read via either of the web archives listed below. I would encourage you to register though because it give me an idea of how many people are reading the messages, and as we get more members we get more power as a group.
you will be sent a confirmation email, which you must then reply to. This method is best if you plan to read all the messages via email and don't want to use any of the advanced features of the Yahoo! Groups server.
How to Leave
You can remove yourself from the email group in 2 ways ;
If you change email addresses (or change ISPs), you will need to send an unsubscribe from the old address and a new subscribed on your new account.
you will be immediately be removed from the list. You should send this email from the email address that you registered with.
Privacy Issues
When you post a message to the group, your email address will be visible
to all members, in just the same way as if you had sent a private email
directly to every list member.
Searching the Archives
There are 3 searchable archives of the mailing list:
1: eScribe
and 2: Yahoo! Groups.

Please could you configure your email program to by default not send HTML based email messages.
The software on the Yahoo! Groups server also keeps a copy of
the message, allowing people to read it on the web, and also allowing people
to quickly search the text of all of the messages. Another list archive is also operating at eScribe, this one being a little more traditional layout and a better search engine.
If
you then want to post from the eGroup server, or change the mode of your
membership to digest, or read on the web, you need to get the Yahoo! Groups server to
send you a default password. To do this you will need to pretend that you have forgotten your password, even if you never had one to start with.
Go to the main Yahoo! Groups page http://health.groups.yahoo.com and supply your email address, but click the "Forgot Password" link. The server will email you a password that you will then be able to use to "log in".
To change your message preferences, hit the
Yahoo! Groups Subscription" button on the groups info page. You will be presented with a form where you can change your text delivery options.
To summarise use the -nomail address to stop email and the -normal address to start again.
Subscription Options
If you joined via email only
If you joined the group via email, you will be registered with Yahoo! Groups in `individual email message' mode.
Changing Subscription Mode
Once you have registered via the web at the Yahoo! Groups server, you can go to the
group info page
and click on the "Modify Subscription" button half way down the page. You can also send a blank email message to the addresses listed in the Group Addresses section above.
If you do not see a "Modify Subscription" button, then you are not "logged in" to the Yahoo! Groups server and need to use your email address and password to log in.
Individual Emails
This is the default. You will receive a copy via email of each message that is sent to the group. Daily Digest
You will receive one email message, approximately daily, containing the full text of all of the messages for that day. a digest is normally split into 25 messages at a time. No Email
You can read messages posted to the group using your web browser. As you don't
receive each email message in your inbox, you can read messages at your
leisure. This mode is also ideal if you want to go away and don't want your
inbox to become clogged. Special Announcements
You only want to receive specially marked announcements from the list. Only the group moderators can send an email to this group of people. So far we don't have any plans to use this feature. You cannot select this mode via an email command, only via the web site options.
Tips and Tricks
Digests in HTML Mode
If you are reading the list in either `daily digest' and your email program can read HTML formatted email, you may wish to configure your Yahoo! Groups profile to generate HTML. The messages list at the top of the digest message will contain links to all of the messages. This will allow you to quickly jump to the message body. The message body will be actually in that message if you get the full text, or will take you to the Yahoo! Groups server to read that message.
Holiday Mode
If you are going away and don't want your email box to fill up, simply send a blank email message to
When you return, to receive email messages again, send an email to
